About Us
Equestrian Pilates® was born out of two passions—the love of horses and the love of Pilates.

Elizabeth Hanson grew up in rural Illinois where her mom bought her first quarter horse, Red Dog Ben at age nine. The basic riding instructions were, “here are the horse, saddle, and bridle, now go to that field and ride.” This event led to a life long obsession with horses including Western on Quarter Horses, saddle seat on a Racking Horse named April Jubilee, hunter jumper in college, and now dressage on Goober.

Pilates came to Elizabeth while working part time in the fitness field for fun. For her, Pilates’ attention to health,

biomechanics, movement, therapy, and anatomy brought instant appeal, with other great physical benefits, a stronger back, more flexibility, and longer leaner muscles. The other great benefit of Pilates, increased core stability taught her how to avoid collapsing, twisting, bouncing, or bobbing the rest of the body while on horseback. The end result—riding became even more fun!

And why not make it more fun for everyone! Thus Equestrian Pilates® was born. A new exercise program specifically created to make something fun like riding, really, really fun.

Elizabeth now lives in Arlington, VA with her standard Poodle, Noodle. In addition to teaching Pilates she spends her free time at the barn with her horse Goober and each day tries to get a little better in the great quest to perfect the art of dressage.

Elizabeth holds a BA in French & History from Earlham College and a MA in American Studies from George Washington University. She is certified in Pilates mat and apparatus with the PhysicialMind Institute in NYC. She has completed Bally’s Total Fitness Pilates’ teacher training program through level four created by Elizabeth Larkim as well as continuing Pilates education through Michael Wright, at the Body College, a PhyscialMind Institute certifying studio located in Washington D.C. and Potomac, M.D., as well as workshops created by M & M Studios located in Florida.

Special thanks are necessary to several individuals who have used their talents to make Equestrian Pilates® possible.
